Visiting Israel in May-June and and want some airtime...
« ב- : April 03, 2009, 12:38:21 am »
Is this where I should be posting in the forum?  It looks like no one is using the English specific section.

I will be in Tel Aviv for 2 weeks starting May 15 2009 and was hoping to get some flying in.  I have put up some posts on Facebook, Couchsurfing and a few other websites and haven't received any replies yet.

I was hoping someone would be able to fill me in on normal flying conditions during this time of year.  Is it consistent?  Which sites are used?  Are there any local pilots that would be willing to give me a tour rides to launch ect...  The full rundown.

I am an Advanced Rated Pilot (P4) with a Tandem rating from Hawaii.  I will probably be bringing my old NOVA Mamboo or Ozone Mantra with me for the trip.  Tandem is not worth the hassle for such a short trip.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Claude Phillips

Hi scrappy

the weather conditions for the time of your arrival should be pretty good, and you will be able to fly at the ridge or at the mountains up in the north of Israel,

all the thermal sites are 1 hour driving from Tel Aviv and the ridge is about 15-20 minutes drive

Please place here a note on the week of your arrival and we will contact you if anyone go to fly on that dates , as well I will send you a private massige with my phone number so you can contact me when you arrive

as well, you can read our posts in Hebrew, using the google translator - use this link
http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=iw&js=n&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.holywind.net%2Fsmf_new%2Findex.php%3Fboard%3D1.0&sl=iw&tl=en
you will be able to read most of the posts and get basic understanding of what we are planing, I know it's not perfect but its better then nothing, just bear in mind that Hebrew lang is different from English' we speak the opposite from English, and sometimes the verbs are on the opposite side in the sentences

take care

Thanks a lot for the responses.  I will post when I get the actual arrival date and the days I will have free.  I'm coming to town for a friends wedding but I will be sure to make some time to fly.

I will be coming to Israel for 2 weeks from May 17th till June 1.  I will be busy with a wedding on the 20-21st and probably doing site seeing and activities during the weekends when everyone is off of work.  I should be available to fly during the weekdays.  I am hoping for 3 flying days if possible.

I have Amir's number but would appreciate any more contacts or recommendations of who to call on what days to get out and get flying.  I will post the location of the place I will be staying at so I can get recommendations on how to get to the sites or who can offer any rides if they would be willing to do so.

I can also be reached through Facebook as Claude Phillips.

What do you use to communicate?  Should I bring my 2m radio?  What freqs?

Broken record.  Hopping on a plane in 4 hours.  Got my gear down to 11.3 kg.  Be there for some flying soon.  Got the travel package down!

C u guys soon.  Hope I can hook up with some weekday pilots.  We got lots of those slackers having flying adventures all week long this week in Hawaii.

Ill drop a line to Amir when I hit the ground.
