Alejandro Rodriguez, son of Felix and 26 year old brother, of Felix, Ivan and Raul Rodriguez died in hospital yesterday, monday morning after a paragliding accident late sunday afternoon.
It happened at his home site Chinchilla, Albacete. Besides this very sad news, it happened while family and friends were celebrating his mothers' birthday on sunday.
Alejandro formed an acro team together with cousin Horacio Lorentz and brothers Raul and Felix, with whom he won the highest prizes.
Felix Rodriguez, father, runs his paragliding school in Albacete, Club Almenera de Parapente. We often meet the family at our sites.
The accident happened when Alex tried a Mistyflip and it went wrong (he twisted and entered a spin). He was just too low to either recover the glider or deploy the reserve. That's what his brother Raul told us.
The site (Chinchilla) is a low hill near Albacete. You usually don't get much altitude there.
The news have shocked the paragliding community here in Spain. We'll all miss Alex.
