BAIT RIMON
Location:
1243327 N, 180796 E (ITM), On the Tur'an ridge at the south side of the valley of "Netoffa", between the Upper and Lower Galilee, 6 Km. west of the "Golani" Junction.
Type of flying:
Thermals and XC.
Season:
October to April.
Site Description:
The launching site is 400m (1300ft) ASL and 250m (820ft) AGL. This is The site for "northerlies". Although not very high above ground, it is possible to gain as much as 600m or more. The take off slope is wide and gentle and there is ample room for setting up. During the summer (off season for this site), the wind can come up very rapidly and make it difficult to penetrate. It is also common for the wind to shift parallel to the slope and create rotors. Try to stay up front if that happens or go for the LZ. Top landing is normally simple.
Landing Zone:
There is no designated LZ but there are plenty of empty fields by the village below the take-off. Take care not to land in a cultivated field. Also, the area can be VERY muddy after the rains.
Winds:
5 - 25Km/h. Wind direction: 330° - 020°.
Hazards:
No special hazards at this site.
Pilot Rank:
This site is classified for Rank 2 (Intermediate).
Restrictions:
None (other than normal precautions). In weak winds, it may be difficult to cross the village below (buildings, power lines etc.). If you do not have enough height, land on the slope!
Directions:
From the "Golani" junction go west on road 77 for 6Km and turn right to Beit-Rimon. Go up the ridge for 2Km and turn left at the first turn towards the north end. The site is immediately on your left after the turn. To reach the landing zone below you need to go back to road 77 and turn right. After 4Km, turn right towards Ramat-Heib and Ozir. The road turns to dirt for the remainder of the way to the fields of Bik'at Netoffa.
Emergency:
Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
